Emotional Disability

I see a strong young female, struggling to survive.
To the world, she's the tough one; able to withstand even the roughest storms.
But if you take a magnifying glass and hold it up closely to her, your view changes.
There are scars, stiches and burns covering her entire body.
Bandaids cover up her emotional disability.
Her wounds run deep, oozing with pain of a sore not completely healed.
Infection of depression threatens to take over her body.
Agression grips her core.
Inside she longs to be loved, but refuses to accept even the slightest gesture.
She guards her heart to prevent further injury.
Smiles become her crutch, and laughter her greatest medicine.
But neither smiles nor laughter are enough for this emotionally disabled girl.
No one, including herself, knows the true depth of her disablity.
She only knows that a piece of her dies every time someone refuses to listen.
People cannot see her pain-its not something thats physical.
Yet this affects her every move, every sentence, every breath.
She pleads to God to kill her and free her from this pain.
She begs God to save her from this emotional disturbance,
Yet its something she'll live with.
She's dying to hear God loves you.
To sense deep in her heart that these emotional wounds don't matter to someone
That someone can look beyond her scars, stiches and burns and see who she truely is--
A beautiful creature of God.
If only she would recognize that this is already happening.
There is someone who sees beyond her pain, and see this young female as a complete individual. This person sees her emotional disabilty, but looks beyond it.
He looks at the core of what makes up this girl.
He smiles.
"She's beautiful." he says.
When the world looks at her, they see a strong young girl
When she looks at herself, she sees the pain and the scars
But when God looks at her, he just sees plain beauty.

***this was written for a girl at C-21 who had just sent me Martina McBride's "God's Will."
